Klas
My brother in law and his wife are in from out of town again. She’s a killer chef (not a cook, a CHEF, in the classical tradition) and she is dangerous to be around. Sowanyway,we went to Cicero today, to engage in a little petty gluttony at Klas, one of my personal favorite restaurants, a dining room filled with blackforest carvings and food that makes you stand and sing “deutschland deutschland uber alles”. Actually, the place is Czech operated, but man, is it tasty. I had sauerbraten und spaetzel, wife had a mutant chicken cordon bleu- I say mutant because the chicken this breast came from must have been the size of an ostrich. Let’s not forget the liver dumpling soup (the brotherinlaw’s wife says there is only one trouble, the bowl is too small!!)
As much as we semi-stuffed ourself, we were fine afterwards, I think because this is the food of our ancestors, our guts used to digesting it, from an entre race. Seldom do I enjoy going out so much. If you’re in town, consider Klas. For under $20/person you can eat like a bavarian king.

I grew up in a house with my grandparents, both of whom emigrated from Austria. I grew up on spaetzle and strudel, saurbraten and saurkraut, peirogies and keilbasa.
Sounds right up my alley. Nummy!
Not singing Morgen Rot (sorry, not a German keyboard and language set here)? Must’ve been the ladies present.
“liver dumpling soup”
Am I the only one who felt a bit queasy reading that phrase?
Harvey, liver dumpling soup is a taste treat fit for Gods. If you’re not into organ meats, then you’ve missed the best part of the animal.
Dude, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
When my grandmother used to make liberknodel I’d practically lick eat the bowl.
Hmmm I do believe I have that recipie around here somewhere.
That was supposed to be lick AND eat the bowl.
Sorry, I was drooling on my keyboard :)
grau, whatcha think about a Klas blogmeet?
If I can make it with my crap ass work schedule, you’re on!
I am going to make me some damn liberknodel soon, as well. I haven’t had any since my Grandma passed away in 1999. Far too long.
So lets figure something out.
