On Jon Benet
As any parent will tell you, nothing can be more horrible than having anything happen to your child. The Ramseys, if in fact they are exhonerated, still bear a good measure of guilt- who lets their child go with no supervision for that length of time? Seems to me like a child was an expensive accessory to them, like a BMW, or Louis Vuitton luggage. I cannot imaginer not knowing where my child is or what she is doing, every minute of every day.
Should this guy be convicted, especially after ten years of freedom, they need to put him in stir, and do so for life. Death is too damned good for him. He needs to be incarcerated with the hardcore, who will make him suffer for years to come. He’ll be popular in stir, with those girl arms and that pez-dispensor head.

Good on him.
If he is in fact guilty, and convicted and sent to jail, I’d make bet on one thing:
He’ll be up to his @$$ in new friends.
(Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week. Remember to tip your waitress.)
Um, what do you mean “if in fact they are exhonerated, still bear a good measure of guilt- who lets their child go with no supervision for that length of time?”
They have been exonerated — none of the DNA collected matches any of the males in the household, handprints taken off the wall of the room where she was found also match no one in the family — and they were guilty of putting her to bed and going to bed themselves. The child was taken in her sleep. Her parents were asleep on the floor above. How were they negligent for that? How could they know they had an intruder in their house?
BTW, I don’t think this guy did it; he’s obviously disturbed, seriously ill. The only good thing about this business is that now perhaps he won’t molest any more little girls. But he didn’t do that little girl, he just wanted to.
Child not within hearing distance: negligent. Child put forth as a little beauty queen in arenas where kiddy diddlers are known to hang out: Negligent. Failure to equip the home with a security system to protect a known target of predators: Negligent. I doubt they did anything to the kid, but they absolutely should have been more diligent in protecting her. If a book falls off my daughter’s shelf in the middle of the night, I’mk instantly alert and have my hand on the receiver of a shotgun.
I’m still thankful I didn’t have a daughter.
I’d be serving jail time for killin’ her dates.
Does the press have any pictures or video of that girl besides the glamor shots and pageant performances? Anything where she isn’t guzzied up to look like a two bit tramp? I swear, I half think the people in the press must get off on the titilation of this story for it to be such hot property as national news all these years.
That being said, man is that guy creepy or what? Just his body language, and the way he looks through his eyebrows when he scans the room. I watched all I could stand (~5 minutes) the other day on Good Morning America before work. I’d convict him on general principles; I’m sure he’s guilty of something.
Hey, he had prawns and champagne on the luxury flight back to the U.S. I want to know what prawns are so I can have one – if they’re good enough for celebrity suspects, they’re good for law abiding dullards like me. I’ll be mad if they’re some wierd thing like foi gras and $50 a pound, though. I’m lucky to get a cracker-sized bag of peanuts and cup of orange juice when I fly.
Prawns are just bigass shrimp, basically.
I’m with Jen on this one. If he didn’t do it — and I’m not sure I buy that he did, though I’ve neglected paying attention for the past few days, so the authorities could have more to pin on him — a guy that would admit to something so awful probably ought not be walking amongst the rest of us. That shit’s fucked up.
If the local police had not decided that the parents had done it and not bothered to look any further early on, they might have actually solved the case.
They are not alone in this type of tactic. To the FBI it’s standard procedure, and they have blown a lot of cases because of it.
But, it’s more FUN to lean on people and hope for a confession, rather than actually do real police work.
