A splendid repast

I ended 05 with old friends and good food. I marinated, skewered and grilled deer, chicken, shrimps. I made california rolls, half a dozen different finger foods, etc. I had a couple bottles of nice wine, including a good sauternes, one of my personal vices- (Though I’ve saved the drinking of that for today)and we ate and drank and talked and laughed the new year in. In 05 I buried a few family members, met some people IRL that I’ve known online a long time, watched the world change, watched my child grow. May we all have hundreds more like it.

Happy New Year!

Yeah, heavy posting today.

Wonder why nobody ever says that? i guess it’s self evident.

Anyway, here’s a news item I found quite interesting.

Seems a law officer was attacked by a swarm of angry chihuahas.

hehe.

Suppose someone told you that not the Doberman, or Rottweiler, or the german shepherd, but the Chihuahua was the original “dog of war”? Well,it was. If you can find one at a library, read “daily life of Aztecs” by Jacques Soustelle. Read it some time ago, and found it very interesting. The chihuahua (or a dog genetically like it) was revered by the Aztecs, and trained to fight in war. The aztec glyph for ‘retreat” was a man with a chihuahua attached to one ankle; the dogs would run up to the enemies and clamp their needle sharp teeth in the achilles tendon. Try to stay motivated to fight like that. Aztec warriors themselves tied brightly colored feathers to their ankles so that the chihuahua’s would know friend from foe.

I couldn’t make this up, folks.

If I don’t seeya again, happy new year!
