And by the way..

All the nimrods who are praying for a new “liberal” pope, feck off.

Here’s the deal: You don’t go the ford dealership, buy a Ford, then complain it’s not a Pontiac. If you want to worship God, and you want to simultaneously be gay, Go to one of the churches that will accept you, there are a lot of them. Want married priests? go somewhere else. Want condom use? be a lutheran.

This is not a cafeteria plan. There are rules. Don’t like them? tough. Go where the rules suit you. I will not hear anything about “well, I love being a catholic but” Sorry. Being a catholic means following the rules of catholicism. I’m not officially a catholic anymore because I’ve remarried outside the church. So I can’t receive communion, etc. Those are the rules. I follow them. I don’t like them, but I caused that by my direct actions, just as the direct actions of many people cause them some trouble with the church. I’m not going to ask the Church to change it’s rules to accomodate my sins, and neither will you.

Update: Francis Poretto expounds, with his usual depth of analysis.

Loss in the family

Mr Porretto, these days resembling nobody so much as Job, has lost a loved furry family member.

I remember, distinctly, the death of every pet I’ve ever had, and I understand.

Go offer Francis your condolences. And Bruno, say Hi to Bumble for me.

You know, you never get to meet a human who loves you as unconditionally as a dog. That’s probably a good thing, because the pain of THAT loss would probably be fatal.

Of Armadillos and Kings

There are a few things about armadillos I learned doing a two month stint in texas some years back, and most of them are nasty.
Frinstance, you can tell by looking at them, that the dillo is just an armored possum, and it’s every bit as filthy a creature. Mind you, there are those people that eat them, but I’d rather eat raw pork- if a dillo isn’t sufficiently cooked you can get leprosy from just eating it. Nice, huh? They are fairly odd creatures in many ways, but they have this defence mechanisim unlike nearly any other critter alive. When startled, they jump anywhere from two to three feet into the air.
This is a great mechanisim under completely “natural” conditions, because it’s purpose is to allow the dillo to curl into a compact ball in midair, coming back to rest as an impenetrable ball of armor.

On a highway, on the other hand, this mechainism is a decided disadvantage. When the animal is startled by, say, being on the road when a truck runs over it, a squirrel or groundhog will stay put, and often survive. Not the lowly dillo. Warning, graphic images below the staple.
