And this morning

I am extremely thankful that I didn’t overdo it yesterday.

Well, not as much as I have done in the past.

Anyway, the week is almost up and I go back to the grind on Monday but it has been a lovely time off, each day warmed by firewood provided by Mr B and Midwest Chick, who helped us fill our woodpile the last two years. Each time I go out to the woodpile I appreciate their contribution, and I look forward to having lower heating bills this winter because of it.

There’s little on earth that I enjoy more than sitting in front of a fire, unless it’s smelling the burning of the hardwood. When we were in Africa, burning the native exotics had a specific and distinctive smell, and I sometimes put my hands on some scraps of that wood I can use just to remember it.

Partner shared our dinner with us yesterday, and it was fine to have him here, we had PIE and watched old PBS mystery programs ( we’re both big fans of Wallender and Inspector Lewis).

And now I’m pointedly not shopping. Hope the rest of you are also that smart.

You may envy me now.

This is the Boston Crème, which our cake lady (Doesn’t everyone have one?) made because I fixed some stuff for her.

These are sweet potato pies. Made by the Ogwife, who is the master of the sweet potato pie, though a Canajan and a transplanted yangkee. And I have eated a LOT of sweet potato pies, so I know wherefrom I speak.

Today I am thankful for a great number of things, but here are some high spots. Continued reasonable health. Knees that have not yet self destructed. Good health in the fambly. Friends with seemingly inexhaustible supplies of generosity and firewood. Colleagues who are there when needed. Customers who have become friends, and friends who have become customers.

Most of all, a lot of really really good friends. I am blessed among men. Now about that turkey….

You thought you were having a bad day

None of this is surprising, considering the performance specs of the vehicle, as detailed in the 1987 issue of Motor Trend.

H/T my dear old friend and confidant mlle Jenny.
