Bullies

Just got finished reading yet another inspired piece by Mr Poretto.

He speaks about bullies, about bad apples. At the very end of his post, he talks of justice, about removing the apple from the barrel.

I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Poretto, but I’m gonna take this in a little different direction.

I am gonna get me one of THESE!!

In fact, I might get one for each hand. I wonder if Bianchi makes a holster to fit it?

But what about the Ruger?

Spoons asked me this, and I am pleased to report, the answer is “wow”.

The fact of the matter is, like all nice pistols, this sucker outshoots me by miles.

At ten yards, I got all the hits inside the 5 ring, and by supporting my wrist, was able to get 8 out of ten in the X ring. The X ring on these targets is 1/2″ diameter.

The Mark II is possibly one of the finest shooting out of the box 22s I’ve ever shot, and I shot a lot before deciding on this. There are a lot of folks who would say, the Browning Buckmark is more pistol, nicer, etc., and they’d be right. The Buckmark is a great pistol! It’s also a LOT more money, in a heavy barrel version. Almost $100 more than I paid for this.

Here’s the tradeoff: the Ruger is about half stamped steel, pound for pound, where the Browning is an all machined pistol (though machined from an investment casting, IIRC. ) The critical parts of the Ruger are all finely machined, and look as though they’ve been lapped in place; the bolt is such a good fit it feels like it has bearings, I spent a couple minutes LOOKING for bearings. They aren’t there, it’s just that smooth. By the way, the same is true of the Ruger 22/45. The critical parts are all machined, and the grip/etc, is plastic, a good low cost compromise, a nice entry level 22.

The trigger breaks like glass. Ruger has always made nice pistols out of the box, and it’s made in the USA. Nuff Said.
