An ode to the deer season of 2006

I have been skunked inside and out
I have been skunked and it made me shout

I have been skunked upon a hill
the skunk, I think, is out there still

I have been skunked beside my car
I hadn’t gotten very far

the deer was standing in a road
and it got flattened like a toad

before I had a chance to fire
he met his end beneath a tire

I wish I had a deer to eat
they’re packed with loads of tasty meat

I’ve cleaned my rifle and put it away
I’ll shoot again another day
I have another chance, but then,
I’ll probably get skunked again.

There went my luck for the day.

Pulled into the McDonalds parking lot around eleven.
Now, I stay away from the Arches. Life is too short, I think, to eat crappy food, but once in a very great while, I’ll treat myself to a quarter pounder. About once every two months is usually enough, and then only if I KNOW the fries have JUST been dropped- cold fries make the whole meal inedible.

SO i ordered the #3 meal, handed the girl my card, and the computers went down.

“Sorry!” I said, I don’t have any cash”.

“It’s already being made. Take it on us”. Now, that, as Jules said, was a tasty burger! but having gotten my free lunch (Yeah, I know, tanstaafl) I figure I’ve used up my luck for the day, and bigger’n shit, no deer accompanied me home.

I did SEE a deer, and it was almost where I could shoot it! Damned thing stood there on the other side of a fence I can’t shoot across, and I waited and waited as it drew ever nearer, and then some fucktard in a car STOPPED AND WAVED AT THE DEER, which proceeded to head for the hills.

Oh, well, that’s why they call it “hunting” and not “getting”

So farging tired

Wake up exhausted, from all the blasted walking I’ve been doing. I think I’ve cleared at least ten miles a day for the last month, and now I’m doing it in the mud and mire, and trying to do so silently in Sorel boots. carrying a thirty pound pack and a ten pound rifle.

I mean, I’d rather be doing this… but I wish i could get a deer just so I could rest a day.
