by the insistence of trolls to argue, who do not posess the capability of reason.
I love an argument. I love disagreement. I love it because it accomplishes a few things:
1: it helps me to be more clear in my understanding of my point of view
2: It helps me to refine my point of view, if facts come into evidence about which I was unaware
3: it allows me the opportunity to change my point of view, on the extremely rare occasion someone can prove me wrong, and
4: it makes immediately clear who is an idiot, not worthy of my time.
Look, folks: When you want to have a discussion, when you want to argue a point, you must follow a few rules.
1: if you have a position, and your worthy opponent has a contrary position, you must state the reasons for your position.
2: Your opponent has the responsibility of
a: refuting your reasons, citing his sources, and proving his position is
b: Stating his reasons for his position that outweigh your reasons for your position
c: accept your reasons and move on
The discussion cannot always be dealt with in one lump; it may be that the positions must be parsed down into smaller portions and the individual portions discussed each on it’s own merits.
There have been several visitors here who cannot follow these simple rules, and I tire of them rapidly. I don’t give a fuck if you disagree with me, that’s fine. Don’t argue with me on my blog unless you’re willing to do so with even a modicum of intellect. If you feel your position is superior, state it. If I refute it, and you cannot refute my refutation, we can agree to disagree. If you disagree with me, and your only refutation is ad hominem and non sequitor, don’t expect to be treated wiht respect, because you show me none.
I don’t come to my conclusions easily, and i don’t hold onto things that are proven false. If you want an argument about something, be prepared to act like you have two brain cells, otherwise, foad.
