Pathways

Having just been through an experience (angiogram) that I’m not anxious to repeat, I have some things in my life I’d like to examine.

For instance: My eating habits and lack of exercise have been known by me to be less than optimal. I’ve been hearing eat less, exercise more, for many years. Good sound advice that nobody tells you HOW to accomplish.

On the good side, I’ve already quit smoking and seem to have survived it’s effects relatively unscathed.

On the bad side, I’m currently dealing with a great deal of stress.

I have an incredible and understanding boss, and he helps me where he can.
I don’t know if he can do enough to de-stress my current position. I hope he can, I hope he does, because I LOVE my job. I also love the people I work with, they are some of the best in the industry, bar none. An incredibly talented and decent bunch of folks. I am proud to call even the worst of them my friends.

The so-called medical profession

I have an optometrist who rocks on ice. The guy is so good, you cannot believe it. When you are in his examining room, you feel as if you are his only patient. His father was an optometrist, as is his son. He practices in the house he grew up in, across the street from a coffee shop and two doors down from a local theater. He has gone far afield to provide for my special needs as a shooter, and frankly, he’s done an excellent job.

On doctors

Tomorrow afternoon at 3:30, I go for an angiogram. I have been back and forth to several doctors, the most recent of which, a cardiologist, feels convinced that i have some coronary blockage. I’m fairly convinced that it’s a muscle spasm in my arm and chest. Haven’t managed to get anyone to look at my ARM yet, but they sure have messed about with my heart. I guess I am seeing a cardiologist. If all you have is a hammer, as my friend Jenny says, everything looks like a nail.

I’m gonna hope this all comes out OK. Frankly, it scares hell out of me. They are making noises like they might have to put in a stent etc., and if they do I’ll be out of commission for a couple days. If you don’t see a post here by monday, well, it’s been nice knowing y’all.

Update: The test was every bit as awful and annoying as I had expected, and just a little bit more. They ended up making me stay overnight, and I couldn’t move for 6 hours following the procedure. My back hurt enough that they had to give me morphine to let me sleep.

Thanks for your support and good wishes, folks. I’m certain it helped.
