Please welcome back to the blogroll

my internet friend and sometimes sounding board Pascal Fervor.

pascal left the blogroll a while back, not due to my wanting to disrespect him, but because I feared he had quit blogging, his blog hadn’t been updated in so long.

He’s back, and mad as hell, and intends not to take it anymore.

A decenter human has rarely ever trod shoe leather, and I enjoy our conversations immensely. Now, I’m a plainspoken man, and I tend only to embellish where it improves the humor; Pascal, on the other hand, has a rainman-like grasp of the history and nuances of eevrything he discusses. You have to wade through a virtual ocean of frankly unassailable facts to find the shell that holds the oyster in which he has hidden the pearl of his wisdom. it’s worth the wade. If you find you like history, especially, Pascal is your guy, because he knows it as though he lived it himself. No, he’s not THAT old.

Just one thing, my dear friend: Decaf. Please, decaf.

Good lord, you go away for a day and leave the door open

and the fucktards just stagger on in like houseflies. Witness:

You guys did a nice job stereotyping all liberals as hypocritical idiots. I guess that just shows your own ignorance.

You have misrepresented the consensus view. Which climate scientists have said “the world is coming to an end” as you have suggested? The issue isn’t that the world will end but that human life on earth will become increasingly difficult do to global warming.

Now I’m sure you badasses here don’t worry about that kind of stuff, especially since you believe the radical islamists are going to kill you first. How’s that for a bit of stereotyping on my part?

Let’s dissect this, shall we?

You guys did a nice job stereotyping all liberals as hypocritical idiots. I guess that just shows your own ignorance.

A stereotype is a perception that you impose on someone you don’t understand. I’m actually stating facts. Sorry for the confusion. Try and keep up.

You have misrepresented the consensus view. Which climate scientists have said “the world is coming to an end” as you have suggested? The issue isn’t that the world will end but that human life on earth will become increasingly difficult do to global warming.

Consensus is not science. Please do try very hard to keep up, the rest of the class would like to move on. And I would be happy to accept that the “do” instead of the proper “due” is simply a typo, but the letters are nowhere near each other on the keyboard. Try a bit harder to use the language, it helps people who are trying to have a serious discussion.

Now I’m sure you badasses here don’t worry about that kind of stuff, especially since you believe the radical islamists are going to kill you first. How’s that for a bit of stereotyping on my part?

Ah, so you think there is such a thing as a “radical islamist” Actually, an “islamist” is also often called a “muslim”. Some pronounce it “Moose-limb”. Please make a note. And please attempt to understand the nature of Islam first, because your ignorance of it here clearly illustrates why liberals are, in the main, immune to facts of any kind.

And then there’s this gem:

Actually, the prediction was 2-10 metres in the IPCC report…But then again, you neo-conic guys always assume we brag as badly as you do…

What is it Rush says? “it ain’t braggin if you can do it”

Refuted quickly and accurately by Mr Pascal, who permeates the fact proof screen of the left with such incredible ease. Thank you, amigo.

Ed, that is a brilliant question

Unfortunately when you write a post like I did, you get a lot of the same kinds of responses. They remind me of the shit we used to discuss in catholic grade school- “If you miss mass on easter sunday and then cross the international date line and miss mass again, is it a sin once or twice? ”

I had some good comments to the post, which help me fine tune the concept, but the comment by Ed Bonderenka is sheer brilliance and a great question. I would answer it thusly:

Watching video of Nazi atrocities or taliban beheadings is instructional. No evil intent nor evil commited by the viewer.

Watching other prisoners tortured in the same concentration camp as you, when you are unable to act in any meaningful way, no evil intent nor evil committed by the viewer.

Watching suffering imposed on others when you have the means and opportunity to act on their behalf, and you stand idly by, is evil as well. I do think it falls into the “enjoys witnessing” category, because if you see suffering, can act but don’t, you’ll have a hard time convincing me that you don’t enjoy watching it.

So to clarify and fine tune the three part litmus test:

it is evil to maliciously act or seek to act in a way that causes the suffering of others
it is evil to enjoy or seek out enjoyment from the suffering of others
it is evil to profit or seek to profit from the suffering of others.

Now remember, folks, the question is to find some evil behavior that does not fall into these three categories, NOT to find circumstances that mitigate these categories, we ALL understand what they are.
