For the geeks among us:

The Goto guy for Planimiters is a retired mathematician, and spends his spare time doing things like making simulators for aging computers. . I remember working on old CNC machines that had a similar layout and similar controls, and I was alwasy amused at the way they functioned. You too, now, can pretend that you’re a Brit computer programmer in 1950. The simulator is a free download, and if you’re a real geek, you’ll download and run it.

Ordinarily the twanging of a Banjo

makes one think of either hydrocephalic slack jawed yokels or woody harrelson thwacking zombies, but this has always been one of my favorite arrangements of an otherwise annoying song that has gotten a lot of airplay because of this commercial.

I give you Iron Horse’s “Bluegrass train”

Update: My Dear old friend and Confidant Mlle Jenny links me to this:

Only in austin could you link redneck covers of drug anthems with partisan politics. Great banjo, though.

Black Guns

Took the AR to the range yesterday after the morning hunt. It was miserably cold and I’m fighting some kind of sinus infection, so I did not finish out the day nor will I hunt today.

But i did get a chance to put a couple rounds through the AR. It functioned perfectly, everything doing what it is supposed to do and doing it properly. Nothing loosened up, the borrowed mags from Mr B were smooth and wonderful. The sights are a bit off but they are certainly “Moment of home intruder”. And as soon as i can afford to put a Facog on it, I’m sure I’ll be able to do much better.

And now of course i need a 22 conversion kit so I can shoot it cheap.
