My dear old friend and confidant Mlle Jenny

opines that there is a push to get more Natural gas vehicles in her neck of the woods. As Ed writes in the post linked below, the T Boone Pickens crowd is trying to make this a reality as well.

Now, I know about a half dozen people who still drive Molotov Carktails; cars whose gas caps have disapeared and been replaced by wads of red rag, which of course get soaked with gasoline and turn into incendiary devices. If people had natural gas vehicles, I can only imagine what neglectful ownership will bring us.

Jenny thinks this might be the chlorine the gene pool needs. I find it extraordinarily difficult to disagree with her.

Is on fire. best post he’s written in a while, you should go read.

Spent the whole day yesterday

Inside a hole about the size of a garbage can, reaching through another hole the size of a mailbox, changing a rotary union. Imagine picking the lock on your front door, from your garage. using only a rake and a piece of cheese. It was like that. They had to pull the floor so I could even get to the area where I had to work. So I got to lay in ten years accumulation of oil, congealed coolant, cigarette butts and chaw spit.

On the other hand, the guy I was working with on this project is the next generation, a twentysomething self-taught engineer who understands what he’s doing very well and has no issues doing it properly. It’s refreshing- and rare- to see someone under 40 who takes that much interest, and pride, in his work.
