It followed me home- can I keep it?

More than one person has made mention of my packrat tendencies. On dragging home a pile of stainless conveyor sections one time, the wife said “What’s that?” partner remarked “I’d guess shiny and free” OK, I may be a bit of a magpie. I do have a very nice drill press as a result of this, and many other things.

A couple weeks ago I dragged home a 25 watt Universal Laser. I have been playing with it, and yesterday finally got enough smoke collection to get serious.

At 25 watts this will not do steel, esp. since it’s CO2, but wood and most plastics will do nicely. Once in a while I garbagepick cool stuff. FOr those keeping score this is a ULS25e. Anyone wants some laser engraving done, I’m in the learning and practicing mode, and welcome the opportunity to play.

Lipizzanner!

great special on the Dancing Stallions tonight. I love to watch those mothers jump.

Dad did too. He had seen specials but he had wanted to see them in person- he got news of them being at some Chicago venue or another but when he arrived he found he was a day late. Less than a year later he was dead.

Watching this, I wish he could have seen it. There is something about people who tend horses, and really care for them, that Dad would have liked a good deal.

Dad was born to tend horses, and we spent a lot of my youth helping people with them, but I don’t know shit about them. I know that it made dad sick to see people treat horses like cats- play withthem when convenient, and ignore them until you were interested in playing again. I saw things people allowed to happen to horses that were frankly miserable, and it destroyed my faith in humanity as a whole- and even now, I only have any faith in the very few people who have proven themselves to be trustworthy, and there are just a few of them.

Yes, I realise the people who watch over these magnificent horses are paid well to do so, but you can’t have a job like that without love for what you do, and it shows.

G-d bless anyone who holds the life of an animal in high regard, and acts as a faithful steward to that animal’s life. I hope Dad can see this.

So I hate to spend cash on computers

Most of the stuff I do with them, I can do with an old beater, and my office regularly trashes them.

So my current home tower is an old Dell Precision 670 workstation.

it was, however, set up to accept a LOT of memory and a LOT of processor, so via Ebay i put in two processors each of which was 50% faster than the original single processor, 8 gig of memory, and upgraded to Win7. It took some fiddling to get it right, but it seems to be working just fine.

Couple weeks back, while making room in the office for some new equipment, I stumbled on a copy of Doom3. I remember buying it when it came out- but at the time I didn’t have enough computer to run it.

I do now. Sheesh, what a change from the old Castle Wolfenstein days. I know this is nothing compared to the FPS games today, but I remember wasting a lot of time playing it. It will be interesting to see if it is as addicting as it was back then.

No, I can’t actually play the damnedthing, I don’t have reflexes like that. I play in God mode and just wander around and shoot stuff.
