Today I attended the Design Engineering show at McCormick place.
Lots of cool new tech, etc, and I got a lot of ammo for the next years worth of software reccomendations. On the other hand, one of the coolest things is the swag. yeah, a lot of crap, but some cool stuff too; Squeezy balls shaped like baseball helmets, one even shaped like a brain. Two dozen nice quality ballpoint pens. One ballpoint pen/ FM stereo combination. A fudge brownie. A Starbucks’ coffee. Multiple pieces of software. Lots of contest entries.
And 13+ miles of walking around McCormack place. Dogs barking. Must sleep. More later.
Oh!! MT upgrade by Sekimori
Seki rocks.
Seki wanted me to let you know that she is NOT responsible for the- how did she put it? “Alleged design” of this blog.
My hometown. A good place to be from. Fact is, escaping that southern-democrat shithole was one of the best things I ever did with my life. There still isn’t so much as a single black student at the local high school, and almost no black population after dark. The lake itself is famous for being one of the first bodies of water in the midwest to be condemned.
Jean Shepherd (A Christmas Story) immortalizes Cedar lake in a few of his novels, notably “in god we trust, all others pay cash” where he talks about going to cedar lake Crappie Fishing with his dad.
My dad knew better. We fished the lake as kids, but we were under strict orders never to eat anything, and we had to wash our hands and fishing equipment if we ever got any of it wet with lakewater.
You see, Cedar Lake was originally a resort town. Folks from Chicago would come down to the lake and live there in the summertime, or at least spend weekends. it was cooler than the city, and middle class families could buy a little chunk of land and put a three room cottage, little or no heat, outhouse, have a summer blast. The lake, at the turn of the century, was clean and pretty, full of life.

Spent a bit of time this morning at a local ELGS, and while it was unspeakably lame, I did manage to find a nice waistband holster for the Mustang:

It fits nicely in the small of my back, it’s comfortable, and it’s soft. The firearm is protected and so is my backside. It’s ambidextrous, you can clip it on the left or right, which means I can clip it inside the waistband of my pants and only the grip protrudes above the waistband. It’s very nice, and it was $13; it’s not the kind of form fitting quicksdraw holster you might think of for an auto, but it’s a perfect concealed carry holster, and I’m happy I have it. I also got a nice gun bag for a long rifle +scope, $20.
Otherwise, I’m gonna have to start going to better gunshows, this one sucked on ice. The same shit I’ve seen at 20 other gunshows. I’m really looking for a K31 in nice shape, and I’m reluctant to buy one online.
