I was just busy. On Monday, the 16th of October, we celebrate the 7th time around the sun since Jean Shepherd died.

Anyone who doesn’t know Jean, you need only to rent a copy of The Christmas Story. That’s him.

For anyone old enough to remember his broadcasts, consider yourself very lucky.

For myself, I had a chace to meet him, shake his hand, thank him, as a resident of Northwest Indiana, for allowing us to laugh at ourselves. His eyes twinkled and he smiled, and said “thank you”. I don’t think he ever came back after that, which was in, I believe, 87.

I shopped at the Minas’ store where his mom shopped. I shopped in the Goldblatts (Higbees, in the Christmas Story) when I was of such an age. When I took my swipe at the broadcasting business, I sat at the same microphone as Jean Shepherd. Literally, I’m told, (though I have no provenance of this) because the owner, julian Colby, was a cheap bastard. Of that I don’t have any personal experience- but jean left a cold spot when he passed. He was a local Ham, and my local Ham club held what is called a “silent key” cerimony for him.

We miss you, Jean. Storytellers of your ilk are few and far between.

I have mnore than one friend- in fact, I have about eleven, i believe- who will start an argument with me and just as I’m about to make a salient point, will change the subject or disapear. It irritates me no end, and they keep on doing it. The most recent one concerned the democrats vs republicans. And it began with a discussion of the moral turpitude of Senator Foley.

Let me be clear on this. I don’t give a flying fuck if it’s a republican or a democrat, if they do wrong, they have done wrong. If the wrongdoing is actionable, they should be punished. And let me be exquisitely clear on this point: I don’t give a flying fuck on earth if the ruling party sacrifices cats to Baal, so long as they govern correctly.

A lot of people make the mistake of assuming because I disdain the moral turpitude of top leaders among democrats, this is the reason I dislike them as politicians. Nothing could be further from the truth. I dislike Democrats because they govern poorly. They have a history of governing poorly. Their personal pecadillos have no concern for me other than as a human being. Foley put together legislation that will protect a LOT of kids. His work as a senator is not bad. His value as a human being? well, maybe bankrupt.

For all the things Democrats and Republicans do alike, it is not what their personal lives tell me (though it is often a good indication of the content of their character) but what they do in office that makes me like or dislike them. No democrat has shown me (other than perhaps Joe Lieberman) that they have what it takes to be in power in this country,. How they go about GETTING the reins of power is indicative of how they’d rule, and it’s all bad. No, maybe the republicans aren’t a lot better. But they’re better.

I refuse to let my site be polluted by linking to the commies, so I’ll link to Blackfive, instead. Let hi draw down on the fuckers. Read, be horrified, and write CNN a nastry message or two. Ask your local carrier to stop carrying them.

When oh when will we start hanging these fuckers for treason? How much is enough?
