Re the post below: I ask Dick about stuff in the military because he’s the guy who knows the most of anyone i know, and he answers my email. But he’s NOT normal- not in the “civillian” sense of the word. he may be “average” in the Ft Benning sense of the word, but I doubt even that.
Dick is a guy that, when you meet him, you either immediately like him, or you run in terror away. I’m not afraid of hardly anyting but a lawyer, but I’m damned if I would ever want to piss Dick off.
Broad and I have been having a discussion about this story. Lest you have to read through the whole deal, it’s about money being spent on vets with VD for continuing care or disability.
Broad is incensed. She believes there should be a class action lawsuit about this.
Well, I disagree. And I commented as such. I am for anything that helps a former serviceman or woman. Sure, there are some who game the system- but I’m confident that in pretty much all the cases, the GI’s in question are genuinely disabled. Broad’s feeling is, these guys stuck their stuff where it oughtn’t have been stuck (and brings up the old chestnut about rape) and shouldn’t be compensated. As for the rape: I’ve known a LOT of servicemen and women. Rape is NOT a government-sponsored activity. Rape is NOT A WEAPON OF WAR USED BY THE USA. It IS, by the way, a weapon of war used by all islamic groups. A rapist in the US military would be a rapist anywhere.
So MY feeling is that when there are no more tax dollars being spent on abortion, I’d begin to be concerned about the money being spent on GI’s who contracted VD in the service of our country.
broad called that “A typically male thing to say” a statement which is purely sexist in and of itself. You don’t even have to be human to make this syllogism:
Females get pregnant through casual sex.
Males and females contract VD through casual sex.
Females who get pregnant get tax money to end their pregnancy.
Females and males who contract VD should get tax money to treat that VD.
You don’t have to google much to find a lot of taxpayer funding used for abortion, California is waist deep in it, with over 34 million being spent in 1998 alone. (Medi-Cal Report: Medi-Cal Funded Induced Abortions 1998, Medical Care Statistics Sect., Dept. of Health Svcs. May 2000)
No, not all states have it.
Actually, if you read the linked reference, you’ll find that it isn’t in fact the VD that most of the GI’s are collecting for, but the amount of disability they have incurred due to the disease.
Bottomline is, what is good for the gander is good for the goose- and gander. As I said in Broad’s comments, I have sympathy for the woman who wants an abortion. She did something stupid to get to that condition, but we ALL DO STUPID THINGS.
If I have two people in my office, and each one needs $100, and I have $100, and I have a choice between giving it to someone who had incautious sex, or someone who had incautious sex in the service of our country, I’m giving the $100 to the GI every time. Specifically, because liberals will be around to take another $100 from me,and give it to the other person anyway. And additionally because the overweening hatred liberals have for the military would make them say things like “there ought to be a class action lawsuit”. By the way, in EVERY state, there are people getting free treatment for the venerial disease they contracted during casual sex, from medicaid.
Sorry, Broad. No sexism. No male anything. Nothing but facts: if one person deserves medical treatment as a result of casual sex, ALL DO.
Be nice, y’all, Broad is a good friend.
