For those living under a rock

Studs Terkel died last week.

yeah, he was a socialist asshole- in a recent interview he stated

“The big problem is that there’s no memory of the past. Our hero is the free market. People forget how the free market fell on its face way back in the Depression. And how the nation pleaded with its government and got help. “

Which shows you that age isn’t a guarantee of wisdom.

Still, I liked his writing style. Seeya, Studs, you had a good long run.

Allegro non dope-o.

I giggled. I even lol’ed.

Range Day! Range Day! Party Time! Excellent!

Partner and I and the nefew headed off to the range today, a long overdue trip, indeed.

Partner has come into a few dollars, and hell, he’s a single guy so he has disposable income,so he’s been buying stuff.

Stuff like a pristine Krag-Jorgensen. I mean, the wood is gorgeous. It’s blue is a little weak, but whattya want for a 100+ year old gun? Anyway, it shoots like blazes. And we shot his new (Well, to him, anyway) Springfield 03A3. I brought my Swiss rifle, and we all took a swipe at it. And he had his M1 Carbine, which was a dream to shoot, and to look at.

We shot everything at 100 yards. We were shooting at 16″ x 20″ targets. We kept them on the paper. Pretty good shooting, actually, for a bunch of fat old guys with bad eyes.

Oh, and i shot the Marlin 336. It loves to feed the new Hornady Leverevolution rounds. And I love to shoot it. I shot it best of anything.

All in all? A great range day. I mean, I love to have rifles that have reach out and touch something. And to be able to repeatably hit a man sized target at 100 yards? Feels good. I like it fine.
