One of my co-workers has some chickens. He gets me eggs, sometimes.
This morning I arose at three in the ayem to a pair of screaming charlie horses in my calves. While I was walking them off I spied the egg carton; real eggs ought not (according to me) be refrigerated. So the electrons in my head move around until they convinced me that an omelette was a good idea.
Unlike Alton Brown I like stuff in an omelette. With the holiday over, there are a bunch of leftovers in the fridge, a bit of this and a bit of that, and I decided that’s the omelette I’m gonna have.
So i chopped up a piece of Andoille about the size of an acorn. A little corned beef and some ham. An onion and a couple shrimp. Diced fine and added to the top of the still slightly runny eggs Some shredded mozza, a little extra sharp cheddar, some smoky brie, and the slightly crusty end of a piece of Shitake.
No, there aren’t pictures! It’s an omelette! Who the hell do you think I am, Oleg Volk? Brigid? I ate it.
I’d put down a slice of toast with marmite on top of it but that would be gilding the lily.
And today, people will see me, and fear me, and run screaming at the sound of my farts.
EMDFL takes me to task here a bit because I cast aspersion on the lowly 22 Hornet cartridge; seems that since the last time I looked at SAAMI specs, the 22 hornet has surpassed the rimfire cartridge in speed and power, and he poked fun at me for my ignorance.
See, I have this rifle. Well, it’s not so much a rifle as it is a bunch of pieces that I hope are someday a rifle once again. I’m a little afraid of doing anything with it, because when it was new, it used a cartridge which was probably double charged. Saami specs when this rifle was new were much, much lower than they are today, and now, apparently, you can load rifles way the hell up there.
And it’s still a 22 hornet, at the end of the day.
I get why people like the little hornet, though I think I’d like the 218 bee or the mashburn Bee better. Hell, if I was gonna futz around with an odd cartridge I’d probably even go for the Ackley Bee. I get the wildcat/odd cartridge thing. On the other hand, if you’re going to be serious about varminting, there are lots of far better cartridges better suited to the task.
At any rate, I have let that rifle sit because the idea of a 22 round that wasn’t as hot as a CCI stinger didn’t appeal; less so, because of the cost of operation. A box of 22 LR vs a box of 22 hornet? No comparison. Gimme the rimfire anytime and I don’t have to get down on my knees in the gravel and search for the expensive brass sized like hummingbird peckers. But as EMDFL says, it’s not your father’s 22 hornet. Thanks for the eeducation, dude!
We don’t use desk lamps here, not having end tables as such, but we have a couple old torcheres in the living room. They tend to burn out at the same time, and I usually replace them at the same time. So the cycle will probably repeat itself over and over again.
As I’m getting the new bulbs I spot a Walmart sales associate, and ask him where the lamps are, maybe I’ll get another lamp and improve the light.
“Thees way”
I follow him to the aisle I just quitted. “here joo go” he says.
Light fixtures.
“No, I mean lamps. Like floor lamps, desk lamps”
“Jes. lomps. We have many. Choo can see” he does his best imitation of Vanna White, gently caressing the nearest bathroom light fixture with the tips of his fingers.
“No, freestanding lamps. Lamps that you plug in a wall” I indicate a wall outlet on the shelf.
“Like a flatchlite? Reesharejubal? ”
“No, to light a room. To read, or cook, or eat”
“Jess!” he points again, this time to a ceiling fixture, “A lomp for a room!”
Sigh.
So I draw upon my meager collection of Spanish and ask “Donde esta la cosas para la casa?”
he says ‘Ah!’ and directs me to housewares.
There I find they have one torchere, which will not accept a light bigger than 150 watt, and is $70!!!
I have done my best to try not to buy chinese products, I really have. I have no personal animosity for the Chinese, and as a people and as a nation I pray for them that they succeed and that they grow into a democracy. I do not like providing commerce to a nation that has our downfall in mind.
So if I have no choice but to buy Chinese products, I have a rule. Cheapest price, best quality. I’m not going to pay Cabelas to mark up a pair of pants to $140 that I can buy at Walmart for $15. Cabelas does not deserve $125 to sell out our commerce, afaik. I may be wrong on this, anyone who wants to enlighten me do so. It seems that Cabelas could sell Bills’ Khakis and mark them up 10% and do OK.
So the guy at Walmart was trying, and I have to give him that. he had no idea. What kind of house does he live in where all the lights are fixtures?
And now I have to find a cheap 200 watt torcheire. Or three, because these are on their last legs.
