Mrs and Mr Du Toit are speaking about rape. It’s a touchy subject- but an important one.
I look at this from the only standpoint that I understand completely- that of predator and prey.
Human males are the pinnacle of predation. Shit,we developed civilization as a tool for predation. And the approach Men use in business is pure predation.
But let’s take a look at the predatory method.
Rapists- serial ones, anyway- use predatory techniques. So, for instance, do deer hunters. And the similarities are stunning.
Deer hunters use camoflage to prevent the deer from seeing them. Rapists disguise themselves as helpful or as innocuous or harmless.
Deer hunters use lures, scents, masking sprays to cover up their scent, calls, al;l manner of attractants. Rapists use the lure of adventure, of the forbidden, the naughty, the dangerous to attract their prey.
The one thing that will prevent a rapist- or a deer hunter- from being successful, is, as Mrs D so correctly points out, to prevent the prey from being within reach of the predator. A deer can do this pretty well. Hell, they’ve evaded me successfully for some weeks now.
Intelligence gives us the edge over the deer. As it should give girls the edge over the rapist- but the same intelligence that makes us better predators of deer makes some men better predators of women.
Bottomline? I believe that the act of hunting itself fulfils the natural human need to predate. And deprived of this, deprived of an outlet for predatory behavior, men become sexual predators, because women have made it easy for men to predate them. No, no woman should ever be subject to that- but as mrs D says, that’s called Denial. You can’t just say it shouldn’t happen, and expect it not to.
