October 2008

First of all

A week and change after my return, let me just say that I am thoroughly pissed off that I cannot buy a Toyota Hilux diesel here in the states. I drove several of them there, and I’m damned if it’s not the nicest truck of it’s size I ever drove.

Now, I also rode around in a Series 2 109 diesel, (Land Rover) and as far as rideability/driveability goes, it has the toyota beaten hands down, of course. You can stand in the back of a Rover doing 50 mph down typical African roads, and that’s something that would kill you- or throw you out of the back- of a toyota. Problem is, the Rover’s supply chain is horribly long, even more so for Africa than here.

There were also Hummers there, mostly h2s. They made me giggle. They’d probably be OK if you could take the tops off them.

Here’s the Hilux we drove

Our guides had just set fire to a field to drive out buffs had there been any there.

And here’s the Rover. While I could see myself driving the Hilux every day, there’s no doubt I’d like the Rover more. rover1.JPG

Mmmmmm.

Salty, bitter goodness on toast.

Just to let you poor bastards know in advance.

On November 5th, 2008, two very bad things might happen. If that worthless assed, teleprompter messiah is elected, I’m coming back blogging; full blast, unchained, and midget ready.

Yep, it turns out that Armageddon really might be just around the corner.
