I have been lucky enough

to have a LOT of great experiences in my life. And I try to remember them here, and share them with as many as possible to keep the memories strong and vibrant.

I also have…. other experiences.

Mornings I woke up with the metallic aftertaste of cigarrettes and cheap booze still in my mouth, from trying to burn out the memories of things I’d seen or done.

Mornings where I had to get up early to… empty the car, before it left the garage, before I could go to work. Mornings where I nursed bruised knuckles and bloody noses and black eyes, mornings where I stopped at the gas station to buy smokes and rolaids and bandaids and advil and used all of the above, before I could move on down the road.

Nights like tonight, driving home from a friend’s place in the rain, I think of those mornings. Glad that I have not had one in a very long time. Hoping that I won’t have another for a very long time.

And at the core of it all, despite the bad nights being bold technicolor DVD’s and the good nights being quickly fading pastel chalk drawings on the sidealk in the rain, I’m glad to be here. There are still things I might do, things that benefit others, things that I will enjoy, things that can make the world a bit better, maybe.

So yeah, I’ll suck it up and move on.

I got nothing.

Here’s a cute dog.
