I’m in

a good deal less pain than I expected, given last afternoon’s slip and fall.

It may be that I’m still cold enough that the nerve sensations have not yet made it to my brain, and I’m actually in agony and don’t know it yet.

Probably the case that I’m so used to knee pain that this is nothing out of the ordinary. I can walk on it fine, and it feels ok, I just can’t make any effort to turn the knee or put any pressure on it from either side.

Getting old is not for pussies.

Deer 1, Og 0.

As has been before, and will no doubt be again. But we had a great time; hunting camp is a well fitted cabin with a piece of land you just don’t expect to see in the midwest, and there are deer, only my lack of skill prevented me from getting one. I did in fact see a couple, too far off and moving too fast for me to take a safe shot, but that’s as close as i got.

I kept a whole raft of people awake with my snoring.

I woke up this morning to at least 6″ of snow, which, you would have thought, would have made hunting a breeze, but no dice.

I was responsible for keeping the fire going in the fireplace, which duty I believe I performed admirably- nobody froze.

And I got to spend several days chewing the fat with old friends and hunting companions old and new, and wandering through a lovely piece of property, which borders a river, a creek with beavers, and acres and acres of multiflora rose whose pinprick scars I bear still, and with unadulterated glee.

I’ve never enjoyed being skunked so much.

I did manage to fall on my ass, and for a brief moment, I was able to see the sole of my left foot over my right shoulder. This caused a good deal of pain, which I believe will get worse tomorrow, but I could only look around and see if anyone witnessed me being a clumsy oaf.

I have now had a shower, and taken a crap in a heated john, and life is good.

note to self:

Don’t read lovecraft on your phone while sitting in a pitch dark tree stand. Gives you the heebie-jeebies.
