The instructor gave us our certificates and turned us loose at noon. 2/3 of the class flew in and their flights didn’t leave till tomorrow,. so they stuck around and played with the machines.
I cut out and hit the road, only to find out that the road was occupied. Well, the highway was, anyway.
No worries, though, Michigan backroads are nice, and aren’t likely to be crowded, so I peeled off and scooted.
I love backroads, at least as much for the things you see as for the twistiness of the roads. I chose one that seemed to follow I-94 more or less, and headed west.
The road had a lot of long, slow gentle curves, and a few surprising spots that were two-handed in an Explorer. I took the inside of one (I could see the approach, and there was nothing coming) and accidentally overtook a bluehaired couple in a vette, who are probably still scraping the pudding out of their drawers. (sorry, grams and gramps. I just didn’t want to do that curve at 15 mpg) I got to see a house that looked like a gingerbread castle frosted in pink. I was already a mile past it before I thought of a photograph. If I can find it on Google Maps I’ll post a picture later.
Anyway, I needed a Frappe, and in the middle of an intersection I saw I was driving past a McDonalds and banged a uey to get one. As I did it dawned on me that I had done this twice, recently. Sorry, Partner, mr B, and Midwest Chick. The 40 mph uey on east 38th street- well, I oughta’ve warned you. Hope your breakables made it home OK.
Makes me wonder if I have a problem.
I can stop anytime!
Anyway it’s good to be home and going to sleep in my own bed tonight.
