Some decent turkey in my life.
Granted, a meal someone else cooks that doesn’t come in a styrofoam container is most of what constitutes a gfood meal for me, but wow.
We went with a smaller bird for Christmas than we did for Thanksgiving, mostly because we STILL had thanksgiving leftovers. I brined the bird per Alton Brown, and we used a 12 lb Butterball.
Let me explain something to you about flavor: Well, no, I can’t. It was too exquisite. Maybe I should speak to the perfect texture of the green bean casserole- well, I hardly noticed because it went so quickly. Then there was the Cornbread stuffing that was…. well, it was very nearly lethally good. And the gravy…. The Ogwife took incredible pan drippings that were awesome and incredible on their own, and turned them into- well, a beverage.
Now, let me speak about the Sweet Potato pie.
Nah, fuckit, I’mna just go eat some more. I can’t imagine a simpler meal that could be made to taste any better than this one. Good lord, that woman can cook. Now excuse me while I whipup some whipped cream.
One of my favorite Christmas stories, not because of the warm feeling you get from it.
Burroughs points out something we should all remember at this time of year. Christ’s redemption is for all of us, even those who don’t wear the right clothes or live in the right places. It’s for junkies and drunks and losers and bums of all types, too. Chris Hitchens and Barney Frank get the same deal. Nancy Pelosi. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Child molesting priests and kiddy diddling coaches. We all get exactly the same offer. It’s what we do with it that counts, regardless of what Calvin said.
Merry Christmas, folks.
