Liar, Liar!

Mark Twain is possibly the worlds most celebrated liar, and if you read his lies now you understand that they were, in the main, lies of entertainment. Truth stretched to amuse and sometimes edify. This type of lying, I’m fine with it. Really. There are still people that do this professionally, and as it is never represented as anything but humor, it’s fine. You know, Stand Up Comedians.

On the other hand, there is the lie that is not just an untruth but a theif of truth. Some time back at Proffessor Hale’s place I had a discussion with people who knew ever so much more than me about AR rifles- and probably they did. However, they didn’t know very much about manufacturing. Hale, in his way, tried to assuage. “They weren’t actually lying, they just “believe” what they say” or some such nonsense. Hey, he was just trying to be nice, and I applaud that.

It’s one thing to deliberately tell an untruth; it is another thing altogether to represent something you do not know to be factual as gospel. This is, in my personal opinion, the very worst kind of lie. And the worst part about that, is refusing to rescind the misrepresentation after you have been proven to be wrong; that simply shows you are not interested in the truth, but just your opinion.

Opinions are fine, and making a comment that represents your opinion is likewise fine, but representing your opinion as gospel without being willing to back up what you have to say is simply lying, in my book. I have myself been guilty of it, and it is the thing about myself of which I am most disgusted (And have plenty of things to be disgusted about with myself, believe you me).

A commenter drove by in the night and left his offal in one of the “Voting” threads (Man, i had no idea the legs those fuckers would have) which consisted entirely of calling me a “poor deluded fool “and offering his TRVTH for me to be edified by. Sorry, moron, representing your opinion as fact just confirms to me you haven’t got the brains G-d gave a duck. Anyway, the spam filters caught three of his comments and wiped them out; I assume that’s because he gets hammered as spam at other sites too. Sometimes I wonder if Jane monitors my comments, I really do.

A long week

Involving several 16+ hour days. But satisfying as hell- I got a lot done.

I built up a bit of a sleep debt, though, and that has lasted until- well, about now. So now I’m apparently done sleeping. Yay me. Did manage to accumulate some poison ivy last weekend, and am attempting to keep from scratching myself with a weedwhacker.

Ah, well, got to get back to the Pratchett anyway, and this is a good time. I’m at “Making Money”, and as soon as I’m done, I’m gonna go back and reread the Color Of Magic again.
