setting up Ubuntu is actually not too hard.
I had to dredge out some of my old command line shit. There are a lot of things to reccomend UNIX, and user friendliness is not one of them. It’s as if 103 years after marconi won the Nobel Prize, you were still using a telegraph key to communicate. Still, sometimes simple is best, and I’m a bit amazed that I still remember some of those old commands.
Here’s a video for a song (or it’s english translation) that was all over Canadian Radio when I was dating the ogwife. Of special note are the tight pants and skullets on the male dancers, who would make good female inpersonators based on their man boobs.
Anyway I heard it so many times I learned to hate it with the fury of ten thousand suns. it was originally recorded in Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey French by the group Ottawan, titled “haut Le mains”. For your viewing pleasure, here is that original. The coke-thin female singer Annette looks, in the first ten seconds, as if this was filmed in super marionation, and the marionetteer has st Vidas’ dance.
of my luddite heart to shave with a straight razor, to mow my lawn with a tractor nearly as old as me, to use tools that are far, far older than me, and to dream of a world where time stopped well before I was born.
Painfully, I’m still stuck with trying to get this network online and working. Not helping is the fact that I haven’t used DVD drives and burners in so long that they no longer appear to function at all. So I’m reduced to manhandling files around on removeable drives etc.
I’ll be happy when thisis over, lord knows. Pitiably all the real hardcore geeks I know are some distance away, so having them do this for me is not an option.
