My word. There were twenty of us, all told. It was very much as if a giant flock of gannets, or perhaps a swarm of locusts, had decended onto the Casa del Mom of Og.
We ate like it, anyway.
There was so goddamned much food i had no idea where it came from. People I didn’t even know were bringing in dishes. Twenty of us ate at banquettes in a 12 x 14 living room, WITH the sofa, loveseat, and chairs.
Afterwards, we ate candy and picked polystyrene grass from our teeth.
Partner and I took long pulls on a big bottle of cockburns ruby port. And now I feel as if I should be dragged back into the water so I can join the rest of the pod.
I have a kind of a barometer of how decent a Christian I have been in any given week, I figure if I’ve been good, I get Fr Brian. If I’ve been an overall ass, I get Fr Marty.
yes, I know it’s a dumb thing.
Still.
Fr Brian this morning, and he was eloquent and.. brief. A wonderful start to a wonderful Easter Sunday. And I’m gonna take it as an omen of good to come.
I’m watching “Ronin Gai” on the IFC.
I love Samurai movies, in fact a lot of Japanese cinema, and this is a good one for several reasons: It’s the last film SHintaru Katsu (Zatoichi) ever made, and it may be the best acted and most intensely filmed movie of the genre. I specifically like the scene where the local asshole samurai are about to go all jerry-falwell on the local hookers by tying one up to a post and a bull which is supposed to split her in half, and a couple of local ronin run in and start the flying blades of fury whoopie machine. Limbs go flying, samurai wiseguys get whacked left and right, and the good guys, of course kick ass. The best bit is when Shintaru, whois supposed to be the bodyguard for the chief asshole, kills him by stabbing himself in the chest with the chief asshole right behind him. Tasty. If you like Japanese films, this one is a must see.
