Deer hunting, Indiana

Tam has a well put together post about hunting deer in Indiana, which talks about the utter goofiness of the laws regarding hunting here.

She’s absolutely correct; and the volume of comments speaks volumes about the aggrivation the subject causes Hoosier hunters.

When i hunted deer the very first time you could sit in a tree stand for days and not see a thing.

Well, actually, not a whole lot has changed, but now at least there are deer around. My yard has a herd that visits every day

In comments I had a lively discussion with Tam’s shooting buddy, and i certainly hope he didn’t think I was being contentious; he pointed out the stupidity of the laws, and he’s right, but the reason for the stupidity is legitimate. Trouble is the reason is just as legitimate for the allowed weapons as it is for the non allowed weapons. So it’s stupid all around. But it’s a king hell lot less stupid than it used to be, and it’s making hunting a good deal easier for a lot of people, including me. I have a Marlin 336 I converted from 30-30 to 44 magnum, and it shoots fine. And it’ll be plenty for some whitetail.

but I’m surrounded by people like this. And this.

I wish the hell they could do something to keep the assburglars out of the field, but it’s impractical. So I settle for staying away from them what I can.

OK, so my memory is shot

it was just that I’d run out of gold bond and gone back to cornstarch.
