Professor Hale decides that the anti-smoking fascists are correct.
I read hale a lot, he comes here, I think him a reasonable person, in the main. And then he comes out with this horseshit.
Look, people, there’s this thing called “Liberty”. You know what it means? No, it doesn’t mean you can do stuff you want when you want it, it doesn’t mean that at all. It means that all around you, you are surrounded by people who will, every single fucking day of their lives, with malice aforethought, do shit you don’t like. And you have to shut the fuck up and DEAL.
“I’m all for freedom but Texting while driving SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
“I’m all for freedom but smoking SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
“I’m all for freedom but all forms of alcohol SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
“I’m all for freedom but smoking dope SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
“I’m all for freedom but letting gays have the legal rights of straight people SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
“I’m all for freedom but guns over a certain magazine capacity SHOULD be illegal!!!” Shut the fuck up and deal.
Let me say this again: Freedom- or libertarianism, or whatever the fuck you want to call it is NOT ABOUT YOU HAVING THE FREEDOM TO DO AS YOU PLEASE. Freedom is about YOUR WORST ENEMY DOING SHIT THAT YOU HATE AND DOING IT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU.
Deal. Jesus. Or stop pretending to be about liberty.
UPDATE: Pascal suggests a graphic for the post.

SMOOOOOKE!!
The first apps job I’ve been given is to set up a machine with two existing fixtures and run some test cuts on it.
before I could even hang the fixtures I found a problem: the fixtures are drilled and counterbored for 1/2′ bolts and the mounting surface has 16mm bolt holes.
Now, lest you have to drag out your calculator, 16mm is bigger than 1/2″, the bolts won’t even go through.
BIG problem. We cannot alter the fixtures, and to have a new set of tables made for the mill could take months. So I do a little digging.
The bolt pattern on the fixture should still work, with a little finagling. And I find a company that has threaded bushings that are 16mm on the outside and 1/2″-13 on the inside. They are made by a customer. And carried by Fastenal. Who will be delivering a box to me first thing in the ayem.
Crisis, averted. Hooah.
Nurse yanked ’em this morning. As someone who has had their fair share of stitches, I can promise you, the subcutaneous suture on my right hand was some of the nicest work I’ve ver seen. In a month the scar tissue will be nearly invisible, it will be completely hidden by a crease in my wrist. The left isn’t quite as nice, I think one of the stitches pulled through and allowed a segment of the incision to open a bit, but it will still very nearly go away.
Doc says I can go back to work anytime next week(!)
he also says the soreness etc. can last as much as three months. I was able to make a good fist on Wednesday, but it might be another week before I have the chance to use it on anything.
