To clarify: Corporations do not pay taxes. They collect them. If Standard oil pays $1 per gallon in taxes, they collect the ENTIRE DOLLAR from the consumer. If they pay taxes on ANYTHING the price of fuel goes up by the amount they are taxed. Got it?
Good.
Now: While we’d all like to elect great new people to take over and fix everything, the couple thousand state, local, and federal officials that do get elected cannot and most likely will not do a thing, because they must fight hammer and tongs with an embedded burocracy that permeates every corner of federal, state, and local government. This is the worst portion of the entitlement class; I don’t care one whit about people on welfare, these mindless burocrats are the ones who get me riled up, because at every corner, at every turn, these are the people who make all of our lives hell, and they will not back down, and once the position is established it will grow like a cancer until one person becomes four, until one bureau becomes ten.
Those people currently number- wait for it-more than 23 million. Actually, that’s as of 2009. it’s a good deal bigger now. And those 23 million people have a MONTHLY payroll of more than 86 billion dollars. MONTHLY. And that is JUST the cost of the employees, not the cost of the offices they manage. (figures from the US Census Bureau)
For this reason, even if we managed to implant the most wookie suited among us and give them all the power we can, they will never, can never undo this mess, because of the hideous malignant cancer that we have allowed our government to become.
Just felt like clearing that up.
here is the link to Project Gutenberg.
here are the haggard books.
Here- to show you what gems the Gutenberg project contains, is Conrad’s “heart of Darkness”
