Spent the most of yesterday putting a new oil pan gasket on the wife’s escape. Seems it loses them at around 40,000 miles without fail, and the amount of aggrivation it takes to get it clear is bizzarre. But it was mom’s day, and mom deserves a car that doesn’t mark it’s territory everytime you park it.

You have to lower the front frame crossmember, then disconnect and removbe the crossover pipe, remembering to disconnect the lambda probe prior to that lest you yank the cord out of the plug.

Then you have seventeen bolts holding the pan to the engine.

Then you have to scrape the congealed previous gasket off the engine AND the pan, and put the new one on.

All of which took about four hours for Partner and I, after which we grilled some steaks for mom’s day.

By the time I got home from work today, I crawled into bed and gave up the ghost for several hours. Now I have toi get out and pay a bill and drag my ass through some hard engineering for another project.

An old, old joke, but one I still like.
