damned rain

Club was packed with a 3 gun match, and so Partner and I went to Kingsbury- actually, it was nice to get back there- of all the DNR ranges this will always be my favorite, it’s clean, well run, the rangemaster is a good guy, not too many morons. We set out to sight in the scope on Partner’s Gibbs replica 03-A4 rifle. I wasn’t about to shoot the Arisaka at the crowded range; though I trust my work I still test it. And I was damned if I was gonna take any kind of risk where other people are around.

Anyway, the 03a4 shoots nice, but the barrel seems to grow and the point of impact move around. It might well be the scope mount; they have apparenly a notoriety for shooting loose, but it certainly didn’t feel loose. So we’ll loctite it, shoot it again, shoot it a lot, and see if the barrell settles in after a few hundred or a thousand rounds.

Damned fine rifles. Even for a replica. I’d have loved to see one of the origiasl Star Gauged rifles, with that lovely Unertl scope. Or, for that matter, one of those Pope Krags.

Best thing ever is to have a friend who has the disposable income to spend on toys like this, and lets you play with them

Finally broke down

and soilversoldered the quarter rib to the Arisaka. Hope to be able to hit the range tomorrow, however briefly, to put a couple shots through it, and see where the point of impact is.

The hands are still twitching from the test. I hope it goes away soon. be embarrassing to squeeze off the trigger totally unexpectedly.
